Dr Stephen Winter

Dr Stephen Winter is a senior lecturer in the Politics & International Relations department at the University of Auckland and the lead organiser of the Magna Carta 800th anniversary lecture series. He is an expert in the areas of justice, rights and democracy, particularly state wrongdoing and its redress. In 2014, Dr Winter published  Transitional Justice in Established Democracies: A Political Theory Palgrave Macmillan, London. A work in political theory, the book explains how states are using transitional justice mechanism, such as truth commissions, official apologies and reparations, to repair the damage state wrongdoing inflicts upon political legitimacy.

Dr Winter also chairs the Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Society for Legal and Social Philosophy. For further details see his webpage.
