Exhibition of 16th century copy of charter

The earliest printing of Magna Carta in New Zealand, now in the collection of the University of Canterbury, was displayed in Christchurch around the time of the anniversary and for an exhibition in December to coincide with the NZ Historical Association conference (2-4 December). The small book is a lawyer’s text from Henry VIII’s reign printed by the King’s Printer, Thomas Berthelet. Contact: Dr Chris Jones at Canterbury University. The exibition also include relevant information about the history and contemporary context of Magan Carta. Much of which stemmed from the University of Auckland Magna Carta Lecture Series in early July.
